SONOMA, Calif– Martin Truex Jr showed no signs of rust as the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series made it’s first road course stop of the season at the Sonoma Raceway Friday afternoon, ahead of this weekend’s Toyota/Savemart 350.

The Furniture Row Racing driver was the only driver to set a lap under 76 seconds (75.740/94.587 mph). The 2013 race winner went out late into the first practice session to set his quick time around the Northern California track.

Fellow Toyota Racing driver Denny Hamlin, looking for redemption after losing the race on the final lap of the final corner, slides into the second position (76.158/94.068 mph). Hamlin is the most recent road course winner, taking the checkered flag last August at Watkins Glen International.

The Ford Performance drivers of Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Clint Bowyer end the practice session third and fourth respectively, followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr. in his final start at Sonoma this weekend.

Chris Buescher, AJ Allmendinger, Chase Elliott, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano round out the rest of the top 10 on speed.

The session was fairly clean with only two drivers having issues. The No.43 driven this weekend by Billy Johnson found himself off road after trying to find the proper dash page in his display and the No.24 of Chase Elliott spun towards the exit of turn 9.

The next on track action for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is scheduled for Friday June 23, at 6:30 pm ET for final practice on Fox Sports 1.
