Tyler Truex won his second AAA Carolinas Semi-Pro division race of the summer to vault into contention for the title, starting up front and never looking back as he wired the field en route to victory.

Truex moves to within three points of leader Gus Dean in the race for his first Summer Shootout crown, meaning if he wins round 10 he will claim the title regardless of any other factors.

Dean came home second to Truex, followed by Ryo Ogata, who scored a career-best in Shootout action by coming home third. Grant Winchester and Jacob Heafner rounded out the top five.

Matt Mead, who entered Monday night’s race second in points, was involved in two separate accidents and finished eighth. He falls to six points in arrears, but still controls his own destiny if he claims the bonus point for qualifying on pole and then wins the final race.

Eddie Fatscher used a round nine win to vault from third in points to tied for the lead, beating out championship rivals Gio Bromante and Ashton Higgins for top honors in the K1 Speed Young Lions class.

Fatscher led all 20 laps of the main event for his third win of the season, with Bromante making a pass for second around Higgins on the last lap.

All three are within five points of one another entering Tuesday’s finale, which means that whichever driver wins the final feature will claim the division title.

Behind the points contending trio, Roy Hayes and Vincent Midas rounded out the top five in the feature finishing order.
