Burt Myers came home sixth after clinching his second series championship (2010, 2016) simply by taking the green flag.

“God’s blessed me with championships (in other series), but there’s something about this NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour that ranks a little higher above all the rest,” Myers said of winning the championship. “When Mike Helton presents you with that championship ring that looks like a Super Bowl ring … it’s just something special. We work all year for chances like this and once you win the first one, nothing’s ever good enough but winning it again. This time we were able to put it all together again and we’re proud of that as a team.”

“We had a good car tonight; I’m actually disappointed with our performance because we wanted to do better than that — we’ve won here three times before so we had high hopes. We just got hung out on the outside on those restarts and could never quite get to where we wanted to get to, but we’re still happy to come home with the title again. It’s a really cool feeling and you always cherish these moments.”

Myers won both the Bowman-Gray Stadium track title and the Southern Tour crown in the same season, capping one of the best years of the 41-year-old veteran’s career. He also accomplished the same feat during his first title run in 2010.

“It makes your season feel like it was worth it,” Myers explained of the double. “I don’t mean to sound like a little kid on Christmas (Day) but this is genuine excitement.”

Myers and other top performers from the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will be honored on Dec. 10 in Charlotte during the NASCAR Night of Champions Touring Awards celebration. The event will be held at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, inside the Charlotte Convention Center, for the seventh consecutive year.
