CALISTOGA, Calif. — Report by Race Chaser Online Managing Editor Jacob Seelman — KBro Photography photo —

Hello familiarity.

Kasey Kahne Racing needed a fill-in for their No. 9 Great Clips mount in this weekend’s World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series events at Calistoga Speedway  after regular driver and 2013 WoO champion Daryn Pittman was sidelined Wednesday night with a broken collarbone in a feature crash at Placerville (Calif.) Speedway — and ultimately, a former team pilot got the call.

Cody Darrah, who competed behind the wheel of a KKR machine full-time on the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series tour from 2011 to 2014, was announced Friday morning as the replacement driver for Pittman in this weekend’s Wine Country Outlaw Showdown at Calistoga.

The run will be Darrah’s first in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series in 2015, and the six-time Outlaws feature winner will undoubtedly be looking to show his former team he can still get it done in his temporary return to the stable.

Darrah won the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award in his debut season in 2011, notching a victory on his maiden campaign as well as a top ten finish in the season points standings. Darrah followed that run up with three straight finishes of seventh in points from 2012 to 2014.

Pittman is scheduled to undergo surgery later Friday to repair the broken collarbone. The crash Wednesday night at Placerville that sidelined Pittman also left fellow full-time Outlaw Jason Johnson with a fractured back.
