In the Open class feature, Nick Hoffman held off a star-studded field of interlopers and Millbridge Speedway regulars to notch his second win of the year.

Hoffman, who also won on opening night, started third but blitzed the front row with an incredible three-wide pass entering the first turn to take the lead.

From there, he never trailed again, surviving three cautions and a failing water line in the final laps to park his No. 2 Phantom Chassis mount in victory lane at the end of the night.

“The wing broke before the last restart … so I was reaching up trying to fix it, and eventually I just had to go and let it rip,” Hoffman explained in victory lane. “I guess a water line fell off there on the last lap, because I looked over and it was laying against the header, so I just shut (the motor) off. Hopefully it’s not hurt too badly.”

Wednesday night completed a banner week for Hoffman, who also won his first-career dirt late model race at Eldora Speedway on Saturday.

“It was just a weird night for us. I’m just thankful we got another win tonight,” he said. “I kept looking up at the scoreboard and saw (Kyle) Larson getting closer and closer … so the last five laps, I don’t think I lifted. This just continues our really good season; I can’t believe how it’s gone so far. I’m just really thankful.”

After winning the first heat race and rolling a six on the invert die, Larson started from the outside of row three and charged forward, sitting in second for the final restart with six laps to go.

Unfortunately for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series points leader, he didn’t have quite enough steam to keep pace with Hoffman after the final restart, falling .919 of a second short at the twin checkers.

“We got some good restarts tonight to be able to get up to second, but I just didn’t get a good enough start in the beginning,” Larson said. “I didn’t know where the 6 (Clark Houston) was going for a while and just got a little bogged down.”

“At the end there, Hoffman was dropping a lot of oil … and it got me out of shape the first time, so I just moved down and hoped he would blow up before the checkered. Our kart was really good though; I think I could have been pretty good out front like he was, but all in all it’s a lot of fun to come out here and race. I had a lot of fun tonight.”

Two-time National Midget Driver of the Year and reigning USAC National Midget champion Tanner Thorson completed the podium in third, followed by recent NHRA Pro Stock winner Tanner Gray and track regular Ethan Mitchell.

Jimmy Elledge, Tyler Odendahl, Clark Houston, Nick O’Dell and Roy Hayes capped off the top 10.

In other feature racing, Ethan Burdett collected his first-ever Millbridge Speedway victory in the Box Stock main event, passing Sam Corry on lap eight and going on to take the checkered flag first.

Cassidy Keitt won her second Beginner Box Stock feature in a row, leading every lap for the win in that class.

Millbridge Speedway’s Wild Wednesday Series returns to action on April 26, for week four of the points season at the sixth-mile dirt oval.
