MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Shawn Solomito cracked the 19-second bracket and led the way during Saturday’s early afternoon practice session for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour at Myrtle Beach Speedway.

Solomito posted a time of 19.956 seconds (97.054 mph) around the 0.538-mile oval to lead a 29-car field in his No. 75 Eastport Feeds machine.

The middle Solomito brother is seeking his first-career Tour win during the Performance Plus 150 (6:30 p.m. ET).

“Well, we know it’s at least got great speed for a couple laps,” Solomito said after the 75-minute session ended. “I still don’t know for sure how it’ll race but I’m pretty confident we’ve got something for them. We’re used to a lot of these low-grip type of race tracks because of some of the places we race back home, so we had an idea of what to expect and I think you’re seeing that pay off for us so far.”

Long-time Race of Champions modified regular Matt Hirschman was second-fastest (20.014/96.772) for PeeDee Motorsports, and is chasing his first series win since 2008 in the first race of the unified NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

Timmy Solomito, the youngest brother of the family, was third overall (20.057/96.565) for Flamingo Motorsports, ahead of former Tour champion Ryan Preece and David Sapienza.

Three-time defending Tour champion Doug Coby, who is seeking his fifth title overall, was sixth-quick in the session and ran more laps (82) than any other driver.

Rob Summers, Todd Szegedy, Andy Seuss and Kyle Bonsignore completed the top 10 on the speed charts.

Coors Light Pole Qualifying for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour is set to begin at 3:15 p.m. local time.
