MOORESVILLE, N.C. — David Gilliland Racing has unveiled the car number and paint scheme that will be utilized by 17-year-old Chase Purdy as he chases NASCAR K&N Pro Series East rookie of the year honors in 2017.
Matching his age and the current year, as well as following in sequence from teammate Todd Gilliland’s No. 16 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota (fielded by Bill McAnally Racing in conjunction with DGR), Purdy will pilot the No. 17 Bama Buggies/Bad Boy Off Road Toyota during the 14-race K&N East slate this season.
Featuring a split red-and-black look, the car features a white pinstripe running the circumference of the car, emanating from the sides of the manufacturer nameplate and wrapping around each side — just below the side windows — before stopping at the back of the quarter panels.
The top half of the car is solid black, while the area below the pinstripe is blocked in red and features the Bama Buggies and Polaris logos predominately. Both companies have been sponsors of Purdy’s since his Legends car days.
Purdy will embark on his first season at the K&N East level in 2017, after a season this past year in which he started off competing in NASCAR Whelen All American Series late models for Hawk-McCall Motorsports before switching over to the DGR program midseason.
Once he began working with the Gilliland family, Purdy made a quick transition into the super late model ranks, competing in a pair of CARS Super Late Model Tour events with DGR among his late-season races.
Purdy’s best SLM finish was a sixth in the season-finale at Southern National Motorsports Park in November, while he wheeled a DGR pro late model to a 23rd-place finish in last month’s Snowflake 100 after
