ROSSBURG, Ohio – Cody Coughlin won Wednesday night’s Last Chance Qualifier for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Eldora Speedway, earning one of two transfer spots into the Aspen Dental Dirt Derby.
Coughlin started last, but methodically worked his way forward and took the lead on lap five after Sean Corr and race leader Chris Fontaine made contact at the front of the field. Coughlin then held dirt ace Rico Abreu at bay over the second-half of the event to win the race.
The driver of the No. 51 JEGS Toyota for Kyle Busch Motorsports will start 26th for the 150-lap feature event.
Abreu also gained an automatic transfer into the main event by virtue of finishing second, and will start 27th after overcoming a crash with Travis Kvapil in his heat race.
Austin Wayne Self finished third after leading the opening lap of the 15-lap event, with Fontaine in fourth after leading three laps. Korbin Forrister rounded out the top five.
Positions 28-32 in the starting grid were awarded by points, with Fontaine, Forrister, Norm Benning, Sean Corr and Caleb Roark left as the drivers who failed to qualify for the 32-truck field.
