February 18, 2014 — RaceChaser Online/Speed77 Radio audio — CHARLOTTE, NC — It’s called the Madness for a reason, and last night on a brand-new edition of Motorsports Madness, the cast got a little bit mad and a whole lot crazier as the wacky news and views of the day were aired out in preparation for the meat and potatoes of Daytona Speedweeks.
Co-hosts Jacob Seelman, Tom Baker and James Pike were rejoined by roving West Coast correspondent D.J. Everett at the Roundtable as the quartet analyzed Denny Hamlin’s dominant closing act in the Sprint Unlimited, the engine woes of Stewart-Haas Racing and the Hendrick motor department, and Austin Dillon’s controversial pole-winning effort for the Daytona 500.
A steaming Black Flag/Checkered Flag segment saw the crew air all of their irks and grins out following one of the most controversial opening weekends to Speedweeks ever, as conspiracy theories were debunked, Kings were celebrated, disappointing plate racing was called out, and much, much more.
New England correspondent Kyle Souza dropped by to talk the first three nights of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway, including the carnage of Sunday night’s Tour-type modified feature, as well as offered his final analysis on the UNOH Battle at the Beach before tonight’s double features, which will air live tonight at 7 PM ET on FOX Sports 2.
D.J. Everett and New York correspondent Steven Ovens helped us break down all the action from the Volusia DIRTcar Nationals, including the Dillon brothers’ dominance in the UMP Modified ranks and Steve Kinser’s historic victory during World of Outlaws finale night on Sunday. Everett also took a look at James Stewart’s impressive win in Arlington, Texas, in the AMA Supercross main event, as he became the third 450 rider of the season to notch a pair of wins.
And the entire crew pulled out their much-maligned crystal balls in a wild attempt to pick the winners of the Daytona Speedweeks tripleheader that will take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, including their calls for who will take home the Harley J. Earl Trophy in the 56th Running of the Daytona 500.
