ROCKFORD, Ill. – Parker Price-Miller made history on Wednesday night at the quarter-mile Rockford Speedway, setting fast time for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series and becoming the dirt track record holder at the historic, normally-paved track with a time of 11.806 seconds (76.232 mph).
Price-Miller topped a field of 26 of the world’s toughest 410ci sprint car competitors in his No. 2X FlyingAG.com entry, claiming the Bullet Fast Time Award as dirt was laid down for the first time ever over the top of the Rockford bullring.
“It was hard to say whether the lap was fast or not, because we’ve never been here before, but I knew it was a pretty decent run,” Price-Miller said. “We were a little tight down in turns one and two, but Rockford has done a heck of a job getting this track ready in the amount of time they had to get it converted over (from dirt to pavement).”
“It’s pretty cool to set quick time tonight, because you’re the first to do it on the dirt here (at Rockford), but hopefully we can keep it going the rest of the night.
Rockford’s all-time sprint car track record was set on the pavement by Jacob Wilson in July of 2011, at a clip of 11.308 seconds (79.590 mph).
The ‘Big Cat’, Brad Sweet, timed in second-fastest with a best lap of 11.854 seconds (77.693 mph) and Ian Madsen was third overall at 11.857 (75.905) after going out among the final five cars in time trials.
The most recent World of Outlaws sprint car winner at Beaver Dam Raceway, Bill Balog, was fourth and seven-time series champion Donny Schatz rounded out the Fast Five.
Paul McMahan had a wild crash in qualifying when he lost the right rear wheel entering turn one on his first lap at speed. McMahan was uninjured and climbed from his car, but the wheel cleared the fence and left the ballpark in turn two. He did not record a time.
Also not recording a time in qualifying was the No. 77X of NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regular Christopher Bell, whose team cited a broken rear end on his car from the pit area.
